Pray Through Temptation
A Scripture-shaped prayer practice for weakness, watchfulness, resistance, and return
Begin here
Prayer is not a substitute for leaving a dangerous situation, changing access, telling the truth, or seeking help. It is the living dependence upon God that strengthens every faithful action.
Jesus taught His disciples to pray for deliverance from temptation and told them to watch and pray because human willingness is weak.
Before
Pray for watchfulness before pressure rises
Ask the Father to expose vulnerable patterns, order your desires, and deliver you from evil. Name the settings where you are likely to become careless.
Pray while making practical plans: where you will go, what you will remove, and whom you will contact.
During
Pray briefly and move obediently
In the moment, prayer may be one sentence: “Father, You are faithful; show me the way of escape and help me take it.”
Then act. Stand up, leave, turn off the device, call a trusted person, or redirect your attention toward what is true and useful.
After
Return quickly when you have failed
Confess without delay. Receive God’s cleansing, tell the truth to the appropriate person, examine the pattern, and renew wise boundaries.
Do not perform self-punishment as though Christ’s work were insufficient. Let sorrow produce repentance and a changed path.

Ask one trusted believer to pray these words with you.

Pray with someone.
