Christian character is not the product of self-powered moral improvement. God forms believers into Christlikeness by the Holy Spirit as they trust Him, obey His Word, and put sinful desires to death.
Read Galatians 5:13–26 in its context. Paul contrasts using freedom for the flesh with serving one another through love, and he contrasts the works of the flesh with the fruit produced by the Spirit.
What does God say?
Freedom serves through love
The freedom Christ gives is not permission to serve selfish desire. Gospel freedom releases believers from condemnation and slavery so they can love God and serve others.
A spirituality that speaks much about power but produces rivalry, consumption, and relational harm is contradicting the direction of the Spirit’s work.
What does it mean?
The conflict is real
Believers experience conflict between the desires of the flesh and the desires of the Spirit. The presence of conflict does not mean God is absent; it calls for active dependence and obedience.
Walking by the Spirit is not passive. It includes rejecting what Scripture names as sin, refusing opportunities that feed the flesh, and following the Spirit’s leading in ways consistent with God’s Word.

Cultivate the Spirit’s fruit
The fruit of the Spirit describes a unified life increasingly marked by love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
These qualities are God’s gracious work, yet believers are commanded to keep in step with the Spirit. Dependence expresses itself through prayer, Scripture, repentance, obedience, worship, and shared life in the church.
Who can I help?
Serve growth without claiming the credit
We can plant, water, teach, encourage, and model obedience, but God gives the growth. This keeps disciple-making hopeful without becoming controlling.
Help another man notice evidence of grace, confront patterns that resist the Spirit, and take one faithful step. Pray for fruit only God can produce.

Take the next step.
Pray through the fruit of the Spirit, naming where you need God’s help today.
Remove one recurring opportunity that feeds the flesh.
Choose one specific act of Spirit-shaped love in a difficult relationship.
Help another man
Pass it on.
Ask a trusted Christian man which fruit of the Spirit he sees growing in you and which needs attention.
Pray together rather than reducing character formation to advice.
Follow up on one concrete act of obedience during the coming week.
