From Disciple to Disciple-Maker

Building relationships that share truth, life, obedience, and responsibility

Begin here

Disciple-making is more than a recurring meeting. It is purposeful relationship in which biblical truth, credible life, prayer, obedience, service, and responsibility are shared so another person can increasingly follow Christ and help others do the same.

Read 2 Timothy 2:1–7. Trace the movement from Paul to Timothy to faithful people to others, and notice the grace, endurance, focus, discipline, and labor required.

01

What does God say?

2 Timothy 2:1–7

Entrust truth to faithful people

Timothy is first told to be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus. Multiplication does not run on personal charisma or endless effort; it begins and continues in grace.

What Timothy heard from Paul before many witnesses is to be entrusted to faithful people who will be able to teach others also. The message is preserved as responsibility is shared.

Reflect

Are you preparing another man to depend upon Christ and Scripture or to depend mainly upon you?

Where do you need the focus, discipline, and patience illustrated by the soldier, athlete, and farmer?

02

What does it mean?

1 Thessalonians 2:7–12

Share both truth and life

Paul shared not only the gospel but his own life. He combined gentleness and affection with exhortation, encouragement, and a clear call to live worthily before God.

A faithful relationship includes teaching and example, listening and speaking, grace and responsibility. It does not make one man the other’s controller, savior, therapist, or substitute pastor.

Reflect

What parts of your life could provide a credible example of repentance, prayer, work, family faithfulness, church commitment, and service?

Where should appropriate boundaries or qualified care protect the relationship from becoming unhealthy?

03

How should I live?

Colossians 1:28–29

Build a purposeful, repeatable relationship

Establish a clear purpose and sustainable rhythm. Read Scripture, pray, discuss real obedience, address questions, serve together, and review what God is teaching.

Set expectations without creating a rigid formula. Different seasons may require gospel foundations, spiritual disciplines, character, family, work, church life, service, or preparation to disciple someone else.

04

Who can I help?

2 Timothy 2:2

Multiply without rushing

Spiritual multiplication is not a growth metric that turns people into numbers. It is the patient entrusting of truth and responsibility to faithful people.

Invite the man to pray for someone, share what he is learning, serve with you, and eventually open Scripture with another person. Keep the process accountable to the local church and trust God with timing and fruit.

Faithful response

Take the next step.

Identify one man with whom a purposeful disciple-making relationship may be appropriate.

Agree on a simple purpose, meeting rhythm, starting passage, and connection to the local church.

Plan from the beginning to help him obey Christ and eventually invest faithfully in someone else.

Help another man

Pass it on.

Keep grace, Scripture, prayer, obedience, and the local church central.

Respect appropriate relational, pastoral, counseling, and safeguarding boundaries.

Measure faithfulness through growing obedience, love, character, service, and multiplication—not attendance, control, or personal loyalty.
